During its Investor Day presentation on Thursday, the megastudio not only revealed that the dystopian series based on the novel by Margaret Atwood will be shooting a fifth season, but it also teased some images from the upcoming fourth season, including a shot of June finally coming face-to-face with her daughter (albeit with a glass barrier separating them).
Check out the cast delivering the good news below:
The show’s upcoming fourth season, which follows June's transformation from slave of Gilead to rebel leader, will also mark the directorial debut of its star Elisabeth Moss, who will helm multiple episodes this season, starting with the third episode.
Series creator and showrunner Bruce Miller is quoted in The Hollywood Reporter as saying: "We’re very grateful to Hulu and MGM that the show will be returning for a fifth season, and especially to our loyal fans for their support. We are thrilled to be able to continue to tell these stories, with our incredible cast and crew, and can’t wait to be back on the air with season four next year.”
The series stars Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, Amanda Brugel, Bradley Whitford, and Sam Jaeger.
Production on Season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale is currently underway. It will air on Hulu in 2021.
