HBO exec assures Game of Thrones fans they'll be 'really, really happy with how it all wraps up'

While the specific details of the final season of HBO's fantasy smash Game of Thrones are being defended by five armies of Unsullied, fans can rest comfortably that they are likely in for quite the bloody treat.

At the winter TCAs today, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told Deadline that the Thrones creators have "done a brilliant job of ending the show in a dramatically satisfying and emotionally satisfying way." He also said that he believed that fans are "going to be really, really happy with how it all wraps up."

Bloys then spoke about the rampant speculation (and expectation) regarding this final season, partially referring to the ultimate battle over the Iron Throne. "It is all spectacular," he said. Here's hoping that a man speaks the truth.

Even though there's a Thrones spin-off prequel already in development (and more potential spin-offs on the way), Bloys was quick to point out that HBO will not become the Game of Thrones network. "What you're going to see is Game of Thrones will be replaced by a more varied slate of programming," Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter, adding, "It's not going to be one show."

However, Bloys went on mention that it would be "crazy" not to try the prequel, but that they "want to be careful not to overdo it."

Mentioning the very different landscape of television today (as compared to when Thrones first launched), Bloys also said that he didn't know if putting something out as big as Thrones would even be possible anymore. That may be true, but whether it's possible or not, everyone is still going to try.

Game of Thrones' final season finally kicks off April 14 on HBO. Until then, be sure to check out all of SYFY WIRE's coverage of the 2019 TCAs right here.
