HBO megatrailer drops first Watchmen footage and introduces Sansa to Daenerys

By Josh Weiss
Game of Thrones Season 8

HBO dropped a megatrailer during the 76th Golden Globes, and it contained two short (yet MAJOR) looks at Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series as well as the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

Interestingly, the scant footage of the new adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel bears little resemblance to the influential source material. We see a collection of folks in yellow masks before Jeremy Irons' character says, "It's only just begun." CUT TO: a character wearing a white mask with black streaks that only faintly reminds one of Rorschach. This'll be interesting, folks.

The Game of Thrones footage should excite any fan, as it involves Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) meeting Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) for the first time and ceding Winterfell (the Stark family home) to the Dragon Queen.

Check out the new footage in the video below. Watchmen shows up at 13 seconds, while Game of Thrones appears at 40 seconds.

Here's Your First Look at Game of Thrones, Euphoria, Watchmen & Big Little Lies #HBO2019

Game of Thrones returns in April (no date has been announced just yet), whereas Watchmen is expected to debut sometime this year.

The latter has been described as "really refreshing and exciting and unexpected" by Gibbons himself. Since Zack Snyder (Man of Steel) did a pretty literal translation with his film version in 2009, a direct adaptation wasn't really needed for a second time.

For Westeros' final hurrah, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) must lead an offense against the White Walkers, which breached the Wall at the end of last season. Oh, and he's also shtupping his aunt, Dany, because he's secretly a Targaryen. In King's Landing, Cersei (Lena Headey) is trying to hold onto the Iron Throne and awaiting the birth of a new child.

What did you think of those quick looks? What are you looking forward to in both shows?
