Mario Kart Tour delayed, Kingdom Hearts III catch-up and this week's Gamegrrl news

By Jenna Busch
Mario Kart Tour

There is thunder in Los Angeles. Chicago is frozen solid. Schools are closed, and some of you are getting to work from home during this very odd weather event. Why not use that time to catch up on some video game news of the week?

We have a new team-up of Sora and the Disney/Pixar gang in Kingdom Hearts III, info on a mobile game delay and more. Here's the Gamegrrl news for the week ending February 2, 2019.

Kingdom Hearts III came out this week, and we’re following the further adventures of Sora, Goofy, and Donald as they try to save the world from darkness. Now, it’s the third game in the series, and it’s been a while since the last one. You might not remember what was happening, and if you’re playing with your kids, they might not have been around. Here is a handy little video to catch you up on the story before you begin. You can also check out this launch day video.

In the game, you’ll be visiting the worlds of Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tangled, Big Hero 6, and Toy Story, among others. Square Enix has knocked it out of the park here. Let us know which world you’re most excited for.

This week we also got a brand-new video exploring the world of Metro Exodus. It's a first-person shooter from 4A Games "that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Flee the shattered ruins of dead Moscow and embark on an epic, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

"Explore the Russian wilderness in vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter." The game is coming for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on February 15!

Mario Kart Tour
Nintendo fans may be disappointed by this one, but in its new Earnings Release, we learned that the mobile game Mario Kart Tour, which was supposed to debut in March of this year, has been moved back until the summer. Yeah, it’s sad, but in the end, isn’t it better to have a game come out late than to have its quality compromised?

Here is the statement from the release: “In the smart-device business, Mario Kart Tour was scheduled to be released this fiscal year, but in order to improve quality of the application and expand the content offerings after launch, the release date has been moved to summer 2019,” the company says. “As we endeavor to develop future planned applications, we will also focus on continued service operations for applications that have already been released so that consumers can enjoy playing them for a long time.”

Marvel's Spider-Man
If you’ve been playing Marvel’s Spider-Man (and if you aren’t, you should be), you’ll be happy to know that you are going to be able to get some suits from Fantastic Four. The suits are the Bombastic Bag-Man and the Future Foundation Suit. Not too shabby. There is more information on the PlayStation Blog. If you want to get them, here’s the info: “The Bombastic Bag-Man and the Future Foundation suit [...] can be yours to use in the game simply by downloading patch 1.14 for the game by connecting online to the PlayStation Network.”

Not familiar with the crossover? The blog has you covered. “There have been too many cool Spidey/Fantastic Four moments to count, but one of the most memorable in their illustrious history was in Amazing Spider-Man #258, when Spidey swung by the Fantastic Four’s headquarters for help with the alien symbiote he was wearing as a costume (that’s right, it later became Venom). The Fantastic Four got it off, but then Spidey was left in his underpants (we’d never do something that silly in the game … wait, I’m being told we did). So Spidey borrowed a Fantastic Four costume … but they don’t have masks! So, to conceal Peter Parker’s secret identity, his frenemy, the Human Torch, gave Spidey a grocery bag to wear on his head. As The Thing might say, what a revoltin’ development!

“Another chapter in their shared story came when Spidey actually joined the Fantastic Four, then calling themselves the Future Foundation, and they all wore cool black and white costumes. Hey, Dan wrote many of those issues, and I scripted one or two myself! That suit was awesome looking because – but you don’t want to hear me yap, look for yourself!”

Finally, this week we got an announcement trailer for DRAGON BALL GAME - PROJECT Z from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America. We’re getting this later this year for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. It’s the story of Kakarot, also known as Goku. You can check out the announcement for the action RPG above.

So what Gamegrrl news are you most excited for this week? Are you playing Kingdom Hearts III? Let us know in the comments.
