For better or for worse, it’s 2019! You know the next couple of weeks will see you rewriting checks because you screwed up the date, and you still haven’t taken down those holiday decorations. Before you bother with that, why don’t you check out some gaming news?

If you’re like us, your New Year’s Resolution was something anyone can get behind. We resolve to play more video games! This week, Nintendo announced a very rare sale that actually includes games you’ll love and we have news on a Hitman HD Enhanced Collection. We’ve also got some info on the Super Crown in Super Mario Bros. U. Check out the top Gamegrrl news for the week ending January 6, 2019.

nintendo super crown super mario bros. u

When Nintendo announced the Super Crown for Super Mario Bros. U, fans were excited. The item turned turns Toadette into Peachette, a princess character. Who else could potentially get a different look? We’ve learned via Resetera that Toadette, and Toadette only, can use the item. The official Nintendo site for the game says, “When Toadette finds one of these, she can transform into the super-powered Peachette. (Sorry Luigi — only Toadette can use this item!)”

Let’s hope that Nintendo changes this at some point because there are a few other characters who could really use the Princess treatment. You know you’ve wanted Bowsette to be a thing. There are a lot of disappointed Internet fans today. Hey, maybe if we keep asking?

Nintendo sale

Speaking of Nintendo, we do have some good news for you. The Nintendo eShop is having a rare sale and it’s got a lot of really cool games! Even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is on sale for 30 percent off. In addition, for the Switch, you’ve got ARMS, Splatoon 2, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, OCTOPATH TRAVELER, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, Mega Man Legacy Collection, LEGO DC Super-Villains, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Gold Edition, and more! For the Nintendo 3DS, you’ve got Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Battle Trozei, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Super Mario 3D Land, Yoshi’s New Island, and more! Even better? Some of the games are available with discounts at GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and Target.

hitman

If you’re a fan of Hitman, you’re going to be really happy about this! IO Interactive announced this week that the Hitman HD Enhanced Collection will be available digitally on January 11 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The collection features the classic Hitman games Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution remastered in 4K resolution with 60 fps.

“We’re very happy with this collection and how we were able to update and remaster two of our classic Hitman titles for modern consoles,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO, IO Interactive. “Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution have helped us on our journey to where we are today, and we’re looking forward to players enjoying them in 4K and 60 fps.”

The Hitman HD Enhanced Collection will feature 4K visuals at 60 frames per second; increased texture resolution; upgraded texture formats; super-sampling; upscale support; heightened shadow map and mirror resolutions; improved lighting; and updated controls for a more fluid experience.

ellie overwatch quit tweet

Sadly, not all the news was great this week. Ellie, the mysterious Overwatch player that recently joined the game’s minor league team Second Wind, has quit after being harassed online. There is no information on Ellie beyond her gamer tag. There were reportedly fan theories that she wasn’t really playing and she received a lot of online harassment about her apparent gender. (You’re shocked, we’re sure.) There were discussions about her low-level account (which could have been a smurf account to protect her identity) and whether a male player was assuming the identity of Ellie. Well, Ellie quit on Thursday, January 2 with a simple tweet saying, “Sorry.”
