Sansa Stink? Sophie Turner was forbidden to wash her hair for Thrones' later seasons
With things heating up in Westeros lately, who really has time for a good bath? During a recent interview with InStyle, Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark of Winterfell) revealed that she was banned from washing her hair for the later seasons of HBO's high fantasy series, Game of Thrones.
"For the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl," said the Dark Phoenix actor. "Towards Season 5, they started asking me to not wash my hair and it was really disgusting. Now, I wear I wig so I can wash my hair whenever I want, which is nice. But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair."
In a way, Game of Thrones (based on the novels by George R.R. Martin) is like the world of Star Wars — it's a very gritty and realistic universe that feels extremely lived-in. Nothing is particularly new, and there's always this constant sense of griminess to the environments and characters, which adds genuine believability to this fantasy land of dragons, zombies, and witches.
Sansa was featured in our first real look at the eighth and final season of the show, with the series set to return this spring. In a mega-trailer released by HBO during this year's Golden Globes, we see Turner's character turning Winterfell over to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who has arrived with Sansa's adopted brother, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington). At the end of Season 7, Dany and Jon became lovers, unknowing that they are actually related; Dany is Jon's aunt.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones will consist of just six episodes and premiere on HBO Sunday, April 14.
