Are you feeling the Stranger Things withdrawal? Fans of the Netflix hit series have been without new adventures since July 4, 2019 due to pandemic and scheduling issues. But the streamer feels our pain and is helping out with the inaugural Stranger Things Day tomorrow, Nov. 6.
Honoring the day Will Byers went missing in Hawkins, Indiana, Stranger Things Day will see the opening of two pop-up shops, one in New York City’s Times Square and the other at The Americana at Brand in Los Angeles. Fans can reserve free, timed spots to visit either location from Nov. 6 to Jan. 15, 2022.
What's inside the stores? SYFY WIRE was invited to the Los Angeles location today where we took a tour of all the spaces fans can enjoy, including now iconic locales from all three seasons including Joyce’s house, the Palace Arcade, Starcourt Mall, the Russian Lab, the Upside Down, and Hawkins High.
In the works since April of this year, the pop-up shops are a repository of everything that's been created around the four seasons of Stranger Things. The rooms represent classic moments from the show, including tons of Easter eggs embedded into the displays, set pieces, and even the merchandise racks.
Photo displays are also a big part of the experience which will take less than 30 minutes to walk through and interact with the various surprises in each room. Attendees can get their picture on the Byers' couch under Joyce's light translator. You can also sit on some '80s wheels, pose and play at one of four free arcade machines, or get a selfie with a demagorgon.
If you're thinking of gifts for yourself or those you love, on the Opening Day and Black Friday, there will be embroidery stations so you can personalize one of several exclusive pieces of Stranger Things gear.
And for those who like to plan ahead so you don't miss any of the secret fun things littered around the pop-up, here are a few hints of what to look for: tokens awarded for getting trivia questions right that can earn you an extra treat; a puzzle experience that will allow you to open up the rift engine from Season 3; and a QR code that will reveal how to buy the two limited edition demagorgon sculptures. Oh, and when you're on the phone in Joyce's house, be sure to ask someone working at the site to make the "Upside-Down" happen.
For those looking for any hints about Season 4 of Stranger Things coming to Netflix in 2022, there are a few items sprinkled throughout the pop-up that hint at upcoming plot points including Hopper's Russian prison life and the mysterious Hellfire Club.
If you can't make it either of the pop-up shops, Netflix has a whole day of home based reveals happening starting at midnight PT on Nov. 6, with a whole docket of Stranger Things reveals on their social channels. There will also be some exclusives at the shops available at the Netflix store.
