Vilgax, the tentacle-faced warlord, returns in the exciting first trailer for the Cartoon Network original movie Ben 10 Versus the Universe. The video's caption assures us that this is "the biggest fight" of the titular hero's young life. What's more: It looks like Ben (voiced by Tara Strong) won't have his usual backup from cousin Gwen (Meagan Smith) and Grandpa Max (Paul Eiding).
Watch the trailer (revealed during Comic-Con@Home) now:
Created by Man of Action Entertainment, Ben 10 is about a young boy who discovers a strange watch (known as the Omnitrix) that has the power to transform him into different alien species for a temporary period of time. Using his newfound abilities, Benjamin Tennyson protects the planet from evil and destructive forces. Vilgax is the main antagonist, obsessed with procuring the Omnitrix for himself. The show has gone through several iterations since 2005, spawning both spinoffs and feature-length films.
Set within the continuity of the 2016 reboot (currently airing), Ben 10 Versus the Universe doesn't have a premiere date yet. Some outlets (like CBR) report that it's scheduled to debut in the fall.
The Oscar-winning Thor: Ragnarok director confirmed this to the BBC, simply stating: "We're just writing. We're writing." Earlier today, Disney delayed the opening of three new Star Wars movies, the first of which is now set to hit theaters Dec. 22, 2023. Right now, it's unclear whether any of them fall under Waititi's jurisdiction.
His sequel to Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, is a little further along.
"I think it's going to be really good," he said. "We've been writing the script off and on for over a year and this week, I'm doing another pass on it. It is so insane and it's also very romantic."
Love and Thunder is scheduled to arrive in theaters Feb. 11, 2022.
