Chris Pratt goes from guarding the galaxy to guarding the future in the first teaser trailer for The Tomorrow War. Helmed by Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie), the star-studded and Tenet-meets Battle: Los Angeles sci-fi epic centers around a soldier from the past (Pratt) who is drafted into a future war against invaders from outer space. Pratt plays Dan Forester, a teacher determined to save the world for his daughter's sake. Teaming up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons), Dan embarks on a "desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet," reads the official synopsis.
Originally titled Ghost Draft, the project was written by Zach Dean (Deadfall, Voyagers) and co-stars Betty Gilpin, Keith Powers, Mike Mitchell, and Sam Richardson. Paramount initially scheduled the film for a theatrical bow on Christmas Day 2020, but the project was eventually scooped up by Amazon during the COVID-19 pandemic in a massive $200 million deal.
“I’m so proud of this incredible cast and crew who worked under challenging circumstances to create a unique, original sci-fi action movie...something that’s increasingly rare. Watching this team of actors and artisans effortlessly blend action, horror, comedy, and drama was a dream come true for me ... and I hope will thrill audiences this summer,” McKay, who previously directed The LEGO Batman Movie, said in a statement.
"Just wait until you see what’s coming," Pratt wrote on Facebook Tuesday. "Boy we busted our asses on this movie and I guarantee you have never seen anything like it. It’s so original, scary, moving, funny, and visual stunning. AND you can let you kids watch it. (PG-13) Get ready for a new favorite movie. There’s a reason Amazon paid a gajillion dollars to buy this film. The reason is... Jeff Bezos loves aliens. And also, it’s the best movie you’ll see this year. I promise you. Humbly, this is the one."

"The Tomorrow War will be a global event that will surprise and delight our customers around the world,” added Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. "Director Chris McKay has brilliantly crafted this unique, action-packed sci-fi escape that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats and tug on their heart strings with its father-daughter storyline. We couldn't be happier to continue our relationship with Chris Pratt — who brings such dynamic star power to the film — along with [Skydance CEO] David Ellison and the Skydance team, as we share this exciting film with fans."
“It is fantastic to once again partner with Amazon to release another film from the Skydance canon,” said Ellison. “Jen and the marketing team have had great success in making film premieres on the Amazon platform must-see events and with Chris Pratt headlining, everything goes up to another level.”
Pratt executive-produced the film alongside Rob Cowan, Brian Oliver, and Bradley J. Fischer. Producers are Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Jules Daly, David Goyer, and Adam Kolbrenner. The battle for the future begins when The Tomorrow War lands on Prime Video Friday, July 2.
