WATCH: Garth Ennis tells us about watching The Boys TV show

By SYFY WIRE Staff

Late last year, Amazon Prime dropped the first teaser trailer for The Boys, the live-action television adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s unforgettable mature readers satirical comic that mercilessly mocked the superhero genre. However, when SYFY WIRE caught up to Ennis, he revealed that he’s much further along than the fans. He has actually had the chance to watch unfinished episodes of the show, months before their official debut later this year.

“I’m a bit ahead of you, I’ve seen six out of eight episodes,” related Ennis. “Early rough cuts, but I have to say, I’m very impressed by what they’ve done. As with Preacher, more than half the battle is in the casting. And they’ve absolutely nailed it.”

Ennis also had words of praise for the cast members themselves, including Erin Moriarty and Antony Starr. But he was particularly impressed by Karl Urban, who plays the leader of the Boys, Billy Butcher.

“I have to say, Karl Urban as Billy Butcher is as close to perfect as I could imagine him being,” said Ennis. “He’s my all-time favorite character, and Karl seems to have nailed him quite nicely...It’s the casting, it’s seeing the characters come to life. Not just recognizing the costumes and things, or even recognizing certain lines of dialogue that you associate with them. But watching the actors inhabit the roles and bringing them to life... I’m very impressed with what they’ve done.”

The Boys doesn’t currently have a premiere date on Amazon but you can get more intel on the series in the video below.
