Turns out dogs might be the best bedmates. Sure, they might drool and fart, but your human bedmate probably does too. And according to a new study, snuggling up to a furry friend could make you feel more secure and comfortable.
A recently released study from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York surveyed 962 adult women in the United States to see how pets (and humans) impacted the quality of their sleep. The women surveyed shared a bed with either a dog (55%), cat (31%), or human (57%) and while the study didn't conclude whether or not sleep quality was impacted, it was able to scientifically say that sleeping with dogs seemed to bring benefits into the women's lives.
"Compared with human bed partners, dogs who slept in the owner’s bed were perceived to disturb sleep less and were associated with stronger feelings of comfort and security," the report stated.
Comfort and security (and warmth)?! What else could you ask for? Sleeping with your dog will make your life better. Fact. Those surveyed who had pups also went to bed earlier and woke up earlier on average than those with cats and no dogs. See? Your dog is actually making you a more productive human and thus the Earth is a better place because of dogs. But let's be honest, we already knew that. So snuggle up to your pup a little more tonight all in the name of science.
